Learning post!
First of all yes, they’re traced. Tracing isn’t a terrible thing so long as you’re not saying “YEAH I MADE THIS ALL BY MYSELF” but I’m totally not here to talk about tracing right now (‘nother post for another time). So more than just tracing the contours of the images, I first searched out the basic little stick figures in all of them, like this.
This kinda helps me determine where the hell everything is gonna be so I can do some sort of quick fixes on proportions before I even start fleshing it out (time saverrrr). As I was going along with these I was learning more and more things I was probably accidentally teaching myself along the way, like how certain muscles stretch or contract in one pose in comparison to how they are in another. It’s pretty interesting the stuff you learn just from doing little things like this!
Towards the later-finished ones (the right-most ones) I cared less about finding the skeletons and more about learning the musculature. A totally awesome advice post that I read a while ago showed me that your proportions can be completely fubar so long as you have all your underlying muscles connecting properly (though that probably shouldn’t be taken as “you don’t need to learn proper proportions”, you should probably still do that).
Anyway, these are just quick scribbles I did while talking to friends on Skype/between playing some games. Super simple studies and easy to complete, yet you totally learn a bunch! I don’t really have much else to say, hahaaa…
